🇬🇧 Essay Competition for Young Scholars: “State Sovereignty in the Face of New Transnational Challenges”
 
The modern world presents states with new challenges that are difficult to face alone – global economic crises, pandemics, climate challenges, and the growing role of private giants in shaping policy and law.
In this context, the concept of state sovereignty needs to be rethought.
 
We invite young researchers to join this discussion and share their thoughts as part of an essay contest organized by the European Center for Constitutional Studies at the Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Łódź!
 
🎓 Who can participate?
 
PhD students and individuals up to 5 years after defending their PhD from Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia.
 
✍ Topic: “State Sovereignty in the Face of New Transnational Challenges” – we are looking for original, argumentative essays containing a clearly formulated thesis, its justification, and references to the legal and social reality.
 
📚 Formal Requirements

• Maximum of 3,000 words (excluding the bibliography)
• Times New Roman, 12-point font, 1.5 line spacing, 2.5 cm margins, page numbers
• DOC/DOCX format, in English
• One submission per participant, along with the required signed declarations
 
📆 Submissions must be sent by November 1, 2026, to: ecbu@wpia.uni.lodz.pl.

Selected papers will be edited and published as open-access ECBU Working Papers. Winners will also be invited to present their research during a short webinar.
 
💵 Three cash prizes of 1,000 euros gross each await the winners.
