Conference: “University and Artificial Intelligence – Between Automation and Autonomy”

On 30 May 2026, the conference titled “University and Artificial Intelligence – Between Automation and Autonomy” was held at the Faculty of Economics, Finance and Management of the University of Szczecin. The event was organized by PhD students of the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin – Krzysztof Jaworski and Sebastian Matysik. It gathered nearly 90 participants representing the academic community, public administration, and practitioners interested in the use of artificial intelligence in research, teaching, and organizational activities.

The programme included lectures delivered by experts from the University of Szczecin, the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, and the Maritime University of Szczecin, a panel discussion devoted to challenges related to misinformation and AI technologies, as well as practical workshops presenting applications of modern artificial intelligence tools in academic research and teaching. The conference highlighted the importance of the responsible and critical use of AI in the academic environment, emphasizing that despite the rapid development of technology, human competencies—responsibility, ethics, and critical thinking—remain crucial.

The conference was held under the Honorary Patronage of the Voivode of West Pomerania, the Mayor of Szczecin, the National Representation of Doctoral Candidates, the Agreement of Doctoral Candidates of Technical Universities, the Doctoral Forum of Polish Universities, the Agreement of Doctoral Candidates of Natural Sciences Universities, and the Agreement of Doctoral Candidates of Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

The organization of the event involved, among others, the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin, the West Pomeranian Doctoral Candidates’ Association, the West Pomeranian Doctoral Schools’ Association, the Centre for Economic Initiatives of the Marshal’s Office of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, the Regional Centre for International Debate, as well as doctoral schools of the Pomeranian Medical University, the West Pomeranian University of Technology, the Maritime University of Szczecin, the Koszalin University of Technology, and the Academy of Art in Szczecin.
