Doctoral students of the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin have received funding from the National Science Center
We are pleased to announce that Ms. Elif Ylilmaz and Mr. Antoni Torzewski, PhD students at the Doctoral School of the University of Szczecin have received funding for research projects from the National Science Center Poland.
Title of the project Ms. Elif Yilmaz ,,Morphological and molecular characterization of the diatom communities inhabiting the highly alkaline Lake Van (Anatolia, Turkey) and the surrounding water bodies”-Institute of Marine and Environmental Sciences.
Lake Van,the largest soda lake in the world, attracts attention not only with its natural beauty but also with the microscopic organisms it hosts. As part of a new research project, water samples will be collected from Lake Van and the surrounding lakes, and the characteristics of the water will be measured. Diatom species isolated from these samples will be examined in the laboratory using microscopy and genetic methods. Diatoms, known as microscopic algae, play a crucial role in ecological balance due to their role in fixing carbon dioxide.
